Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island

The Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island reaches more than 8,000 students and adults through our Environmental Education and Summer Camp programs. Our Environmental Education Program provides biological and environmental education opportunities for school groups, while Summer Camp provides Georgia 4-H agents and campers an unforgettable 5-day learning adventure.

Beach Ecology Class April 26, 2014

Saturday, 9am-11:00, $10 per person

Join us for hands-on beach ecology class taught by one of our knowledgeable and engaging educators.  Included is a discussion of basic parts of the beach ecosystem and the forces that shape the beach over time.  Then an up-close look at our aquariums that hold various fish, crabs, and other live animals we have found on Tybee’s beaches including a loggerhead sea turtle.  Ending with a one hour beach combing excursion.

Adults and children are welcome. $10 for everyone age 5 and up. Under 5 not charged but an adult must stay with them. Class intended for age 8 and up but younger children are welcome. Class meets at 9am on April 26, 2014 at the Burton 4-H Center, 9 Lewis Ave, Tybee Island, GA. 912-786-5534. Pay on the day of the class with cash or check. Job Opportunity

Part-time, temporary facility support position available on Tybee Island. Typically work week will be less than 30 hrs, some weeks may be closer to 40 hrs. Work will include basic janitorial and maintenance tasks like garbage and recycling detail, trouble-shooting basic building issues like plunging and repairing sinks/toilets, trouble-shooting AC and basic building maintenance. Some limited landscaping duties along with other tasks as assigned. Successful applicant will apply online through the UGA employment website. Search staff positions at Burton 4-H Center, utility worker 1. Position pays $12.00. Applicants must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs at a time, work all day on their feet bending, stooping, and working on knees as needed. Work is both indoors and outdoors regardless of weather. Successful applicant must have excellent people skills and be able to work around children. You must be able to pass a DMV and criminal background check.

Homeschool Days Fall 2014

September 15 to 17 2014 and November 24 to 26, 2014.

An Environmental Education field study designed specifically for homeschoolers.  Bring your family to the beach for an educational vacation at a great value.  Our environmental education program teaches over 7,000 students a year for over twenty years.  We have reserved space during these days exclusively for individual homeschool families to sign up directly with us. Facility Rentals for Girl/Boy Scouts, School or Church Groups, etc.

Your group can rent our dormitories or classroom space for a trip or conference on Tybee Island. You can also register for our hands-on environmental education classes or have food service in our dining hall. Click here for more information.
